Willy-Arnaud Zobo Boly (born February 3, 1991 in Melun ) is a French professional footballer who plays as a central defender for the Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers .

Club career

Born in Melun ( Seine-et-Marne ), near Paris, Boly played youth football for various clubs and spent three years at the INF Clairefontaine academy . He later made his debut for AJ Auxerre's reserves , signing his first professional contract in February 2011 after agreeing to a three-year deal with an option for a fourth. On April 16, 2011, Boly made his Ligue 1 debut by playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 away win against Toulouse FC . He scored his first goal in the competition the following day in a 1-1 draw with RC Lens .

On September 1, 2014, Boly moved to Portugal and signed a four-year contract with SC Braga . He spent his first season with the B-team in the Segunda League . In his second season he was able to firmly establish himself in the first team and win the Taça de Portugal .

On August 31, 2016, Boly signed a five-year contract with FC Porto with a release clause of 45 million euros. However, he only played eight competitive games during his stay there. He made his debut in the Champions League in a 1-0 loss to Juventus Turin .

On July 8, 2017, Boly moved on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Football League Championship club , where he met his former head coach Nuno Espírito Santo again . He made his debut on Matchday 1 of the season in a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough FC and scored his first goal on October 31 in a 2-0 away win over Norwich City .

After contributing to promotion in 37 official appearances, Boly signed a multi-year contract with the Wolves. He made his Premier League debut on August 11, 2018, in a 2-2 home draw against Everton . He scored his first goal in the competition two weeks later in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City .

Boly's parents are from Ivory Coast . He played for various youth teams in France (U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-20).
