Roman Wiktorowitsch Savtschenko ( Russian Роман Викторович Савченко ; born July 28, 1988 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh ice hockey player who has been under contract with Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Continental Hockey League since May 2019 .

Career

Roman Savchenko began his career as a hockey player in the junior division of Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the 2005/06 season . At the same time he was active from 2004 to 2007 for Torpedo's second team in the third-class Pervaya League . In the following years, the defender played for the Kazakhs in the Vysschaya League and the Kazakh Championship . With Ust-Kamenogorsk he won the national championship in the 2006/07 season and the Kazakh Cup in 2008 . In the IIHF Continental Cup 2007/08 , the left-handed shooter and his team also took third place at European level. After he had also started the 2008/09 season at Torpedo, he was committed during the season of Barys Astana from the newly formed Continental Hockey League .

After 10 years, 499 KHL games and 136 scorer points for Barys, he left the club in August 2018 and moved within the KHL to HK Sibir Novosibirsk .

International

For Kazakhstan , Savchenko took part in Division I of the U18 Junior World Championships in 2005 and 2006 , Division I of the U20 Junior World Championships in 2006 and 2007 and the top division of the U-20 Junior World Championships in 2008 .

In the seniors he was in Kazakhstan's squad to qualify for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . After the Kazakhs had won the first qualifying round convincingly in November 2008 with three wins and 31-2 goals, in the second qualifying round in February 2009, with two defeats, they only achieved an 8-2 win against France . He was then also nominated for the 2009 World Cup , in which the Kazakhs played in Division I, and rose with his team to the top division thanks to five wins in five games. Savchenko had entered an elevator with his team, because the relegations from the top division at the 2010 , 2012 and 2014 World Championships were followed by immediate re-promotion at the Division I tournaments in 2011 , 2013 and 2015 . In 2016 he was unable to keep up with the Kazakh team in the top division. In 2011 he was voted the tournament's best defender and two years later he was elected to the All-Star Team.

At the Winter Asian Games , he won the gold medal with the Kazakh team with a 4-1 win in the decisive game against Japan . In the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Sochi 2014, which took place in Riga in February 2013 , he and his team narrowly failed with a 2-3 defeat against the hosts .
