Ronald William Miller (born April 17, 1933 in Los Angeles , California - † February 9, 2019 in Napa , California) was an American film producer , American football player and the son-in-law of Walt and Lillian Disney . He was President of The Walt Disney Company from 1980 to 1984 and CEO from 1983 to 1984 .
Life
Miller was a football star at the University of Southern California in the early 1950s and also played for the Los Angeles Rams at times . In 1954 he married Walt Disney's daughter Diane Marie Disney , and since 1957 he worked for the company. He worked as a producer and co-producer of numerous live-action features and was named President (1980) and CEO (1983) at the instigation of Card Walker after the death of Walt Disney and his successor Roy O. Disney . His special accomplishments included the founding of the Touchstone Pictures label (1983) and the Disney Channel television station .
As the initiator of expensive, but not very successful projects such as the feature film Tron , which featured early computer animations , he came under fire. After the unsatisfactory economic development had already triggered hostile takeover attempts and he was asked to resign in August 1984, he resigned his office and left the company and the film business.
