Ruchstock

The Ruchstock is 2813  m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Uri Alps of Switzerland .

geography

The mountain massif is located in the cantons of Uri , Nidwalden and Obwalden , but its summit is approx. 200 m from the tripoint of these cantons on the border between Nidwalden and Uri in the area of the communities Wolfenschiessen and Isenthal . The summit should not be confused with an elevation of exactly the same height, but nameless, about 250 m southeast of the Ruchstock. These two points are the highest in the mountain range , which begins in the west at the Walenstock and the Rigidalstock and runs in the east over Oberberg and Hasenstock to the Rot Grätli . The Ruchstock sends a third ridge to the north , which descends to the Bannalper Schonegg . Orographically , the Ruchstock lies to the north and south about 500 m above the closer area and about 1800 m above the valley floor near Engelberg.

In the north-west of the Ruchstock lies the Bannalp with the Bannalpsee , in the north the two lower hiking peaks the Brisen and the Chaiserstuels , in the northeast the terrain gradually slopes down to Isenthal , while in the east and southeast the slightly higher, but more easily accessible, alpine hiking peaks of the Engelberger Rotstock and the stick of knowledge . To the south are the Rugghubel , the Hahnen and approx. 10 km away the Titlis , to the southwest the municipality of Engelberg and the Brunni and to the west the already mentioned peaks of the same mountain range. To the northeast of the Ruchstock is a small, steep field of firn called Schlittchuechen . Despite its height, the mountain is not visible from the valley entrance of the Engelbergertal near Stans , it can only be seen from Wolfenschiessen, the Bannalp, the hills on the left side of the valley ( Wirzweli , Gummenalp) or from the surrounding mountain peaks such as the Brisen or the Stanserhorn .

Mountaineering

Despite its considerable height and the tourist infrastructure in the vicinity, the Ruchstock is rarely climbed because its summit is much more difficult to reach than the higher Wissigstock in the south. Its difficulty is usually given as T6 on the alpine hiking scale (difficult alpine hike) or WS according to the SAC high-altitude tour scale. Climbing points to be mastered are in the II. Degree of difficulty according to UIAA , while for a winter ascent you can expect at least a ZS +. The panorama extends from the Säntis to the Bernese Alps and from the Jura to the Black Forest .
