Rudolf Birkl

Rudolf Birkl (born November 27, 1918 in Hof ; † July 27, 2003 in Munich ) was a German politician ( CSU ) and journalist . He also published under the pseudonym Rolf Kastner .

Life

Rudolf Birkl was the son of Aloys Birkl, who in the 1920s described the history of the socialist movement in Hof, represented as part of the overall movement , and was chairman of the Hof local group of the Fichtelgebirgsverein , which is why Rudolf Birkl, at the age of ten, took the symbolic three when building the Seehaus accommodation facility Was allowed to strike with a hammer.

Studies and military service

After graduating from high school in 1938, Rudolf Birkl was drafted into military service and released as a lieutenant in 1945. A war injury forced him to interrupt his medical studies. After the war he studied history and sociology at the University of Erlangen . In 1949 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil.

As a reserve officer in the German Armed Forces , he was last lieutenant colonel .

Party activity

Birkl joined the CSU as one of the first members in 1945 and was a co-founder of the Hof district association and, in 1946, co-founder of the Upper Franconian district association in Lichtenfels . In 1946/47 he was a member of the CSU state executive, until 1948 a member of the CSU state committee.

In 1947 he was involved in the founding of the Junge Union in Bavaria and at the federal level, member of the CDU / CSU Germany working group and delegate in the parliament of the Junge Union. From 1952 to 1955 he was a city councilor in Hof, there from 1953 also acting chairman of the parliamentary group. In 1954 he ran for the Hof constituency in the election for the 3rd Bavarian State Parliament .

From 1958 to 1979 he was press officer and advisor to five Bavarian finance ministers from Rudolf Eberhard to Max Streibl . In 1960 he acted as a knight's squire for Rudolf Eberhard, when he was awarded the order against the seriousness of the animal for his “unbureaucratic and unorthodox” tax policy . As of January 1, 1980, he was retired.

Press work

From 1949 to 1956 he worked as a political editor and deputy editor-in-chief at the Hofer Anzeiger and the newspaper ring Oberfranken in Hof and later in Bayreuth . At the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces (VdRBw) he worked as state press officer for the newspaper Die Reserve . Even in retirement he continued to work as a freelance journalist. Among other things, he edited the series of documents of our time together with the publisher Günter Olzog in Munich .

Birkel was a member of the International Press Club Munich and has been its deputy chairman since 1990; He was also a member of the State Parliament Press Association and the Bavarian Press Club.

Teaching activities

Birkl was temporarily a lecturer at the Bavarian Administration School and the Civil Service College .

Honors

In 1979, Birkl received the great plate of honor from the Peutinger College in Munich and on July 4, 1991 the Bavarian Order of Merit .
