Rudolf Petersen (politician)
Rudolf Hieronymus Petersen (born December 30, 1878 in Hamburg ; † September 10, 1962 in Wentorf near Hamburg ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and first mayor of Hamburg from 1945 to 1946 .
Life
Rudolf Petersen, brother of the former First Mayor of Hamburg Carl Wilhelm Petersen , founded the overseas trading company R. Petersen & Co in 1911 , which merged with Münchmeyer & Co. in 1972 and has developed into the existing MPC Capital AG . Petersen was chairman of the Hamburg export association and the association for wholesale and overseas trade and until 1933 chairman of the association of German exporters.
On May 15, 1945, Petersen was appointed First Mayor of Hamburg by the British military government , represented by the city commander Armytage . On June 26, 1946, he joined the CDU. He was mayor until November 15, 1946 and was replaced by Max Brauer (1887–1973, SPD). Petersen (nickname Old P. ) was housed in house 6 Esplanade with the English military officers. In addition to the mayor's office, Petersen was responsible in the appointed Senate of the Hanseatic city for the main administration / Senate Chancellery, police, auditing office, state archive, state press office, statistical office, appeals office and determination authority. Petersen founded the German Aid Community . Together with Adolph Schönfelder , he set up an administration in Hamburg. Petersen was elected the first post-war president of the newly founded Übersee-Club in 1948 and held this office until 1954.
Rudolf Petersen's grandson, Mathias Petersen , was the state chairman of the SPD in Hamburg.
