Career and life

His military career is a good example of the circumstances before 1868 or especially before 1850, when the Colonel was still the powerful patriarch of his regiment , who also decided on the allocation of posts within his regiment. Since 1803 it was forbidden to sell the officer 's license, but it was legal if two officers agreed to exchange their rank . Only the regimental commander and the colonel had to be informed of this agreement, and there was a money transfer between the parties. Rudolf's father had at the beginning of the 1830s the post of second lieutenant in the Lombard-Venetian Chevauxlegers regiment no. 7 held that in Radkersburg in Styria in garrison stood. When his father Andreas was able to get the post of first lieutenant in 1832 , he handed over his former post as second lieutenant to Rudolf. This regiment was transferred to Hungary in 1833, where it was garrisoned in Moor between 1833 and 1837 , then in Kecskemét and again in Moor from 1847. Rudolf became an excellent rider who quickly spoke fluent Hungarian . In 1837 Rudolf's uncle, who was the personal rider in the court stables of Emperor Ferdinand , made sure that his father Andreas received a post at the court. As a result, Rudolf achieved his previous rank as first lieutenant, his own passed to his younger brother, Andreas junior. In 1844 Rudolf von Brudermann rose to the rank of Rittmeister 2nd class, his previous rank again passed to his younger brother, who, after being wounded in the Revolution , was retired as a major in 1853 .

When the Revolutionary War began in Hungary in 1848, the newly installed Hungarian War Minister took command of the Chevauxleger Regiment No. 7. However, the 1st Division of the regiment, under the command of Major Ludwig von Kaminski and his 2 squadron commanders, Rittmeister Albert Graf Alberti, refused and Joseph von Kliment , the order, as they wanted to remain loyal to the emperor . As a result, they joined the troops of Lieutenant Field Marshal Jellačić at the Battle of Wieselburg . The remaining three divisions soon followed and took part together in the battle near Schwechat on October 10th and 30th, 1848, as well as with great success in all other major campaigns of the campaign. During the battle near Waitzen on April 10, 1848, Rudolf distinguished himself as the commander of a squadron. In May 1849 the regiment received the Russian heir to the throne and later Tsar Alexander II as the new colonel. He was the first to fill all vacant ranks - during this time many higher posts became vacant as many officers of Hungarian origin joined the Revolutionary Army - with loyal officers. This is how Rudolf advanced, who as the senior captain of the 2nd class rose to major overnight. In 1851, all Chevauxleger regiments were converted into Uhlan regiments , making Rudolf's original regiment the Uhlan Regiment No. 11.

At all times, the cavalry was keen to improve the quality of their horses. Because of this, it was decided in 1854 to send Rudolf von Brudermann as a widely recognized expert to the Orient to buy some excellent Arabian horses and to refresh the military stud with new blood. On June 1, 1854, he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and was transferred to the 9th Hussar Regiment , although he never actually took on any duties there, since he was on his mission to the Orient during this time. As part of his journey through the Orient, he came through the Ottoman Empire to Persia . At the end of his mission, he traveled back to Austria with numerous excellent horses. After his return he was appointed colonel on May 10, 1856 and was given command of the stud farm and the Hungarian remounting department. He also brought a 15-year-old Syrian boy named Michael Fadlallah el Hedad with him from his trip to the Orient, whom he did not adopt, but took care of him. He placed him in the cadet institute and made sure that he got a job in the military stud industry (he was finally retired in 1913 as major general honoris causa ). After being awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Leopold , he was also ennobled on March 8, 1858 . On September 28, 1857 he took command of the military stud in Bábolna in Hungary.

He received his appointment to major general on June 21, 1860 and was assigned to the General Military Stud Inspectorate. On November 1, 1865, after 30 years of service, he was transferred to the pension at his own request. Major General Rudolf Ritter von Brudermann died on January 31, 1889 in Budapest.
