Rudolf Moroder Lenèrt (born January 26, 1877 in Ortisei in Val Gardena , Austria-Hungary ; † December 22, 1914 in Radłów , Galicia ) was a South Tyrolean sculptor for sacred art from the Moroder family of artists in Val Gardena and Offenburg ( Baden ).

Life

Rudolf Moroder was born in Ortisei in Val Gardena in 1877 as the son of Franz Moroder and Marianna Moroder (sister of the academic painter Josef Moroder Lusenberg ). After an apprenticeship with the sculptor Anton Runggaldier (Tone da Passua) in Ortisei, he was a journeyman in Franz Tavella's art studio . There followed a military service with the Kaiserjäger in Vienna, where he was able to pursue his artistic interests. From 1903 he lived temporarily, from 1912 to 1914 permanently as the head of the large workshop for church art, the Moroder Brothers in Offenburg (formerly Franz Joseph Simmler ). Rudolf Moroder was stabbed to death with a bayonet on December 22, 1914 together with other Austrian soldiers in a hut on the front in Galicia and is buried in Radłów .

One of his students was the sculptor Vigil Pescosta .

Works

Moroder worked mainly in the neo-Gothic and neo-baroque styles. The group of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia with beggars, created in wood at the age of 21 in 1898, was awarded a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 . The work is exhibited in the rosary chapel of the parish church in Ortisei . Another work of St. Peter is to the left of the main altar of the parish church in Ortisei. His brother-in-law Ludwig Moroder also worked in his 1902 workshop in the Lenèrt house in Ortisei . Rudolf's artistic activity extended in particular to the large-scale workshop for church art of the Moroder brothers in Offenburg, where he produced models and sculptures for churches such as Villingen ( Münster ), Offenburg, Koenigshofen , Altenau , Kappelrodeck , Oberachern , Baden-Baden (St. Bernhard) and Rotenfels . He also created fourteen stations of the cross in relief for the parish church of St. Anna in Silesia. The crucifixion of Christ, which is exhibited today in the crypt of the Trinity Church in Offenburg , also came from Moroder .
