The ruin Waldau is the ruin of a castle in the Buchenberg district of the municipality of Königsfeld in the Black Forest-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg . The keep , remains of the residential buildings and parts of the surrounding walls are still preserved from the high medieval castle .

history

Waldau Castle was founded by the Counts of Urach between 1218 and 1236. In the 13th century it went over to the sideline of the Counts of Fürstenberg founded by Count Heinrich . In 1325 it was partially destroyed in the war between the city of Villingen and the Counts of Fürstenberg. The Fürstenbergers renounced the reconstruction and gave the castle ruins to the Rottweiler citizen Bernhard Haugk. In 1445 it was transferred from the Haugk family to Count Ludwig I of Württemberg . In 1885 it was transferred from the private property of the House of Württemberg to the state of Württemberg, as its legal successor, the state of Baden-Württemberg owns the castle to this day.

State of preservation

The main thing that has been preserved is the keep , which can be climbed through a concrete spiral staircase with a steel railing, as well as large parts of the surrounding walls , the walls of the southern residential building and the remains of the outer barrier walls .

Beck Farm

Hof Beck was built next to the castle around 1822. This building, which is still inhabited today, has remained largely unchanged since then. The courtyard pool is in the Monument Register registered the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg cultural monument of particular importance.
