history
Adalbert von Ellerbach is considered to be the builder of the castle (around 1100). From 1111 he called himself Baron von Hornberg.
The castle burned down between 1430 and 1440. However, it was occupied by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War and then set on fire again.
The castle was owned by the Lords of Hornberg , Lords of Triberg , Counts of Hohenberg and Habsburg . From the former castle complex , beam bearings , a cistern and a rock chamber are still preserved.
Escort towers
At the confluence of the Tiefenbachtal and the Schwanenbachtal, the Lords of Hornberg built a tower (escort tower) that could be lived in, which also covered the entrance to the castle and was thus a forward defense structure. Apart from the remains of a wall, there are no more traces of this Tiefenbach Castle . A second escort tower was built at the northern end of the rule on the Turmerberg, where the trade route could be controlled. Remnants of the wall have also been preserved from this Gutach Castle .
