Runstedt (Frankleben)

Runstedt is a modern desert in today's Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . The village was the first to fall victim to lignite mining in the Geiseltal .

Geographical location

Runstedt was northeast of Braunsbedra on the Leiha, a tributary of the Geisel . Neighboring towns were Frankleben in the north and Großkayna in the south. The former town hall is now in the northwest of the Runstedter lake of the same name .

history

Runstedt was first mentioned in a document around 1085. The place belonged to the Hochstift-Merseburgischen Amt Merseburg , which had been under Electoral Saxon sovereignty since 1561 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place in 1815 came to Prussia and was Merseburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony allocated.

As the first place in the region, Runstedt fell victim to the ongoing lignite mining in the Geiseltal in the early 1930s. The 300 residents were relocated to Frankleben in 1929. On July 1, 1930, Runstedt was incorporated into Frankleben. In 1931 the site was demolished ( devastated ). The Austrian writer and journalist Joseph Roth reported on this in his travelogue called Der Merseburger Spell , which appeared in the Frankfurter Zeitung on December 14, 1930 .
