Graefendorf (Geiseltal)

Gräfendorf is a modern desert in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . It was destroyed by lignite mining in the Geiseltal .

Geographical location

Gräfendorf was in the Geiseltal northwest of Braunsbedra . Neighboring towns were Neumark in the west and Benndorf in the east. The hostage was south of the village. Graefendorf was only separated from Neumark by an anger. The former local corridor is now in the south of the Geiseltalsee in the middle between Braunsbedraer Ufer in the south and the island in the north.

Gräfendorf was first mentioned in a document in the Hersfeld tithe list as a place with a compulsory tithe “Gramannesdorpf”. The local greening is thus in the 8th / 9th. Century. The place name is derived from a person called 'Gramann'. In the chronicle of the Goseck monastery, the ownership of the village 'Gräfendorf' in southern Hassegau is recorded in the 12th century . In a document from the year 1203, a castle was named Graefendorf. This is said to have been on a hill between Benndorf and Neumark.

Until 1815, Graefendorf belonged to the Wettin , later Electoral Saxon office of Freyburg . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place to Prussia came only in 1816 the county Querfurt in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1944th On April 1, 1937, Graefendorf was assigned to the neighboring village of Neumark.

Personalities

The local history researcher Walter Saal (1913–1996), whose father was the mayor of Graefendorf, lived in the village .
