criticism

Schorlemer came under sharp criticism at the end of April 2011 when her Ministry of Science refused the elected rector of the University of Technology, Economics and Culture Leipzig (HTWK), Professor Renate Lieckfeldt , the civil service and thus the entry into service. Schorlemer cited Lieckfeldt's cancer as the reason, from which she had recovered, but which also brought with it an increased risk of recurrence and, according to civil servant law, required a rejection. Lawyers not only questioned this fact, but also pointed out that Lieckfeldt, as the holder of a severely handicapped ID card , should not be discriminated against and should even be given preferential treatment. The case set in motion an intensive ethical discussion about the professional handling of cancer patients.

Another controversial personnel decision was the termination of the contract with the designated Semperoper intendant Serge Dorny before he took office. In 2015, the Dresden Regional Court declared the termination by von Schorlemer to be ineffective. An appeal by the Free State of Saxony against this judgment was rejected by the Dresden Higher Regional Court in 2016.
