Salome Melia ( Georgian სალომე მელია ; born April 14, 1987 in Batumi ) is a Georgian chess player .

Life

In 2001 she won the U14 World Junior Championship in Oropesa del Mar, Spain . She won the Georgian U18 championship for girls in Tbilisi in 2004 . She was able to win the European youth championship U18 women twice : 2004 in Urgup and 2005 in Herceg Novi . At the U20 World Cup 2006 for the female youth in Yerevan , she was third. In August 2006, she won the 21st Acropolis International Women's Tournament in Athens . She took third place again at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2007, again in Yerevan. At the 65th Georgian women's individual championship in 2008, she was tied with Nana Dzagnidze after 12 games at the top. It was defeated in the decision, which was carried out with rapid and blitz chess . She won the Georgian women's championship for the first time in January 2010 in front of Nino Khurzidze in Tbilisi. At the European Women's Championship in Belgrade in August 2013 , she was second behind Hoàng Thanh Trang , and in 2014 in Plovdiv, third behind Valentina Gunina and Tatjana Kossinzewa .

In 2004 she became International Women's Champion (WIM), and since August 2005 she has held the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM). She fulfilled the norms for the WGM title at the Georgian women's championship in 2004, the Moscow Open in 2005 and the U18 youth world championship for women in 2005. Since March 2008, she has held the title of International Master (IM). She fulfilled the norms for this at the Moscow Open 2005 as well as the 22nd Open in Cappelle-la-Grande in 2006 and the 24th Open in Cappelle-la-Grande in 2008. In February 2011, she fulfilled the requirements in the Masters group of the Tradewise Chess Festival in Gibraltar one standard to obtain the title of Grand Master (GM), a second GM standard at the 2013 European Women's Championship and a third at the 2015 European Championship in Plovdiv.

In July 2015, she was fifth on the Georgian women's rankings and 38th on the FIDE women's world rankings.

National team

Melia took part with the Georgian women's team at the Chess Olympiads in 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk and in 2014 in Tromsø . In 2010 she reached third place with the team and second place on the third board in the individual ranking. She took part in the women's team championships in 2011 in Mardin , 2013 in Astana and 2015 in Chengdu as reserve player. Melia achieved third place with the team in 2011 and won the competition in 2015; in the individual ranking she achieved the best result of all reserve players in 2011, the second best in 2013 and the third best in 2015. She also took part in the 2011 European women's team championship in Porto Carras and achieved third place both with the team and in the individual standings of the reserve players.

She played club chess in the 1st Turkish league for Türk Hava Yollari SK , in the Iranian women's league on the first board of Khaneh Shatrandj Babol , in the Romanian women's league Superleague on the first board of CS Contor Group Arad . In Georgia she plays for Nona Batumi , before she played for Samaia Tbilisi . With Tbilisi she took part twice in the European Club Cup for women and in 2009 she finished third in Ohrid . With Batumi she won the women's European Club Cup in Bilbao in 2014, in 2016 she finished second with the team and won the individual ranking on the fourth board. In the German women's league, she played for SV Mülheim-Nord from 2012 to 2014 .
