Samalete ( Samaleten ) is an East Timorese Suco in the Railaco administrative office ( municipality of Ermera ).

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Samalete had an area of ​​9.97 km². Now it is 6.12 km². The Suco is located in the east of the Railaco administrative office. To the west are the Sucos Taraco , Deleso and Railaco Leten . In the east, Samalete borders on the municipality of Aileu . In the northeast to the Laulara administrative office with its Suco Fatisi and in the southeast to the Aileu administrative office with its Suco Seloi Craic . In the Suco are the villages of Rihiu , Eraulo , Tunlero ( Tumlero ) and Leburema ( Leborema ). There is a primary school in Leburema, the Escola Primaria No. 248 Samalete .

The three Aldeias Aiurlala , Eraulo and Leburema are located in the Suco .

Residents

The Suco has a population of 1108 (2015), 591 of whom are men and 517 women. The population density is 181.1 inhabitants / km². There are 174 households in the Suco. Almost 58% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. 41% speak Mambai .

history

In 1975, 70 Sucos residents of Taraco and Samalete fled into the woods after intimidation by UDT supporters . At the same time, seven UDT members were murdered by FRETILIN supporters. The murdered are said to have been involved in murders of FRETILIN supporters themselves. Another FRETILIN supporter was later killed by UDT members in revenge.

In 1992, the residents of Eraulo were forcibly relocated to the island of Atauro . The reason was that they allegedly had family members who sought refuge in the woods. Three of the forced deportees died within two months.

On February 6, 2013, strangers burned five houses and killed three people. An attacker also died. The police then arrested 34 suspects.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , António Piedade was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Vasco Soares .
