Samuel Florent Thomas Gigot (born October 12, 1993 in Avignon ) is a French football player of Algerian descent who has been under contract with the Russian first division club Spartak Moscow since July 2018 .

Career

Samuel Gigot comes from the youth department of AC Arles-Avignon , where he was promoted to the first team of the second division for the 2013/14 season . He made his debut on August 30, 2013 (5th matchday) in the 0-1 away defeat against Chamois Niort . During this season he was used in 10 league games. In the following season 2014/15 he started regularly. On August 15, 2014 (3rd matchday) he scored his first league goal for the Lions in a 1-1 draw against AS Nancy . He scored another three times in 23 league games and rose with the club as bottom of the table in the third-rate National Championship .

On May 15, 2015 it was announced that Samuel Gigot will join the Belgian first division club KV Kortrijk for the 2015/16 season on a free transfer . On July 25, 2015 (1st matchday) he made his debut for his new club in a 2-1 home win against Standard Liège . Gigot quickly made it into the starting line-up and played 28 league games this season. On October 1, 2016 (9th matchday) he scored his first league goal for the Kerels in the 1: 2 away defeat against KSC Lokeren .

On January 27, 2017, he moved to league competitor KAA Gent for 1.3 million euros , where he signed a four-and-a-half year contract. Two days later (24th matchday) he made his debut in the 2-0 home win against Club Bruges for the Buffalos . In this 2016/17 season he played 36 league games for both clubs, in which he scored two goals. On July 30, 2017 (1st matchday), he scored his first goal for KAA Gent in a 3-2 away defeat against VV St. Truiden . He did n't miss a single one of his team's 40 league games in which he scored two goals this 2017/18 season .

On June 4, 2018, Samuel Gigot moved to the Russian first division club Spartak Moscow for a transfer fee of eight million euros , where he signed a four-year contract. In his first league game in a 1-0 home win against FK Orenburg , he scored the only goal of his team. On September 2 (6th matchday) he tore a cruciate ligament in the 0-0 draw in the top game against Zenit St. Petersburg and was out for five months. Shortly after his return to the field, he injured his meniscus, which ended the 2018/19 season prematurely for the central defender after nine league appearances and one goal. For the next 2019/20 season , he reported back with the winning goal in the first league game against FK Sochi . On August 19 (6th matchday) he even managed a double in the city derby against CSKA Moscow .
