history

The entire monument with outbuildings from the east

The Sandschenke settlement was established in 1867 as an inn for the rural community of Nieder Kosel. The place name describes an inn laid out on sandy ground. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Sandschenke belonged to the district of Rothenburg (Ob. Laus.) In the Prussian administrative district of Liegnitz in the province of Silesia . In 1919 the province of Silesia was split up, and the sand bar came to the province of Lower Silesia . In 1929 the municipalities of Ober Kosel and Nieder Kosel were merged to form the new municipality of Kosel . From 1938 to 1941 Sandschenke belonged again to the Province of Silesia, then again to Lower Silesia.

After the Second World War , the sand tavern was in the Soviet occupation zone . On January 16, 1947, the place came to the district of Weißwasser-Görlitz , which was renamed the district of Niesky the following year. Since 1949 the sand bar belonged to the GDR . During the district reform on July 25, 1952, the Kosel community with the Sandschenke district was assigned to the Niesky district in the Dresden district . After reunification , the place initially belonged to the Niesky district in Saxony, which was incorporated into the newly formed Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia district during the district reform in Saxony in 1994 . On January 1, 1994 Trebus was incorporated into Hähnichen and on March 1, 1994 Kosel was incorporated into Niesky . Through these communal reforms, the parts of the village Sandschenke also came to the respective communes.

Since then, the inn and the buildings to the east of it have been in the district of Trebus, all the buildings to the south of the inn belong to the town of Niesky with the exception of the building Neulänge 52/53 . The Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia District was dissolved on August 1, 2008, and the place Sandschenke has been part of the Görlitz district since then.
