Ödernitz ( Upper Sorbian Wódrjeńca ) is a district of the large district town of Niesky in the district of Görlitz in Saxony .

location

Ödernitz is located in Upper Lusatia . Surrounding villages are the town of Niesky in the north, Horka with its district Mückenhain in the northeast and east, the villages of Särichen in the southeast and Wiesa in the south , which belong to the municipality of Kodersdorf, and the districts of Jänkendorf in the southwest and Jänkendorf Schäferei in the west, which belong to the municipality of Waldhufen .

Ödernitz is on the federal highway 115 from Görlitz to Weißwasser . To the west of the village is the Quitzdorf dam .

history

Former village school

The street village of Ödernitz was first mentioned in a document on February 22nd, 1239 in a deed of gift from the Bohemian King Wenceslaus I to the St. Marienthal monastery . The place name at that time was Odreniz and changed over the course of time from Odereniz in 1245 to Odernitz in 1280 to Odernicz in 1457 and finally to Ödernitz .

From 1558 at the latest, Ödernitz was under the rule of the St. Marienthal Monastery . The place was originally part of the parish low Seifersdorf today Ödernitz belongs to the parish Niesky that the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz belongs.

After the Congress of Vienna , Ödernitz came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . There the place was until July 8, 1945 in the administrative district of Liegnitz . For the year 1777 in Ödernitz twelve were possessed man , nine gardeners and 21 cottagers recorded. In 1825 there were 344 inhabitants in Ödernitz, this number then rose sharply. In 1871 Ödernitz had 790 inhabitants, in 1895 there were 902 inhabitants and in 1905 there were 1,172 inhabitants. The place currently has 220 inhabitants.
