Sangli ( Marathi : सांगली , Sāṅglī ; as a twin town Sangli-Miraj & Kupwad ) is an Indian city ​​with 436,639 inhabitants.

It is the capital of Sangli District in Maharashtra State . The Krishna River flows past Sangli.

The city is located at 16 ° 52 '0 north latitude and 74 ° 34' 0 east longitude at an altitude of 544 m above sea level. NN approximately 400 km southeast of Mumbai .

economy

Sangli is the largest turmeric trading center in Asia . The city is located in the so-called "Sugar Belt" of Maharashtra . Demographics

According to the 2001 census, Sangli had 436,639 inhabitants, 224,195 men and 212,444 women. The number of children up to six years of age was 50,403, 27,149 boys and 23,254 girls. 327,060 were literate, 180,478 men and 146,582 women.
