Sante de Santis

Sante de Santis (born November 21, 1965 in Rome , † January 3, 2016 in Stuttgart ) was an Italian cook , cookbook author and television chef . He was a restaurateur and, among other things, the head of an Italian restaurant in Stuttgart with an associated cooking school.

Life

Sante de Santis grew up in his native Rome and went to school there. From 1979 to 1984 he attended the IPAS hotel management school in Rome. He completed his practical training in 1983 at the Hotel Hassler Villa Medici in Rome. From 1979 to 1988 de Santis worked in numerous restaurants in Rome, such as the Negri in Ostia , the Le Terme di Diocleziano , the Amatrice , the La Torre , the Hotel Hassler Villa Medici , the Hotel Cavalieri Hilton and the Hotel Sheraton . From 1988 to 1989 he worked at the London Sheraton Skyline Hotel as Commis de Cuisine , Grill Chef, Entremetier and Saucier .

In 1989 he moved to Stuttgart. From 1989 to 1991 de Santis worked at the Hotel InterContinental as Commis de Cuisine, Demi Chef de Partie , Chef Tournant and Sous Chef de Cuisine . In 1992 he worked in the Varieté tent as a sous chef and show cook. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as Chef de Cuisine at the Ristorante Come Prima in Stuttgart . From 1994 to 1995 he was Commis de Cuisine, first cook and Chef de Cuisine on the cruise ship MS Vistafjord . From 1995 to 1998 he worked as Sous Chef de Cuisine at the Copthorne Hotel Stuttgart International , and from 1997 to 1998 in the Bistró Restaurant Fresko in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart as the chef's representative. From 1998 to 1999 he worked as a freelance cook in the trendy restaurant Amadeus , in the Hotel Maritim and in the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle (KKL).

From 2000 de Santis worked as a freelance restaurateur in Stuttgart. He ran the bar Caffé San Pietro and the gourmet restaurant Ristorante San Pietro in the Old Parliament in the Heusteigviertel , which he continued as Trattoria San Pietro from 2011 . In the connected cooking school, he regularly held cooking courses (Corsi di Cucina) , which he led himself.

From 1997 he appeared as a TV chef in cooking programs and as a show chef at cooking duels and events. De Santis was best known for the TV series Kochduell , which was broadcast on VOX between 1997 and 2005 . From 2009 to 2013 he appeared several times in the VOX series Promi Kocharena . He also published several cookbooks with recipes from the “kitchen of his homeland”, the Italian cuisine .

Sante de Santis was married and had two daughters. He lived in Stuttgart until the end, where he died of a heart attack on January 3, 2016 at the age of 50 .
