history

The first documented form of place names dates from 1378 as a Schonrestat . In the middle of the 15th century, Schönerstadt and Börnichen were owned by the von Rechenberg family . Both places were mentioned in 1478 as part of the personal property of Barbara von Rechenberg. Her marriage to Kaspar von Schönberg made Schönerstadt the property of this family. After a first feudal letter from 1482, Kaspar was enfeoffed again four years later by Duke Albrecht with Schönerstadt, a number of other towns and villages as well as the Sachsenburg Castle . Hans Caspar von Schönberg auf Neusorge founded the Börnichen line, the headquarters of which was the castle in Börnichen. In the following centuries, despite changes in personnel due to inheritance divisions, the latter owned the property rights to Schönerstadt. The residents had to perform labor and interest services on the Börnichen manor and the extensive land holdings of the von Schönberg family.

In Schönerstadt in the Augustusburg office , witch hunts were carried out in 1529 : two women were involved in witch trials and died in torture.

In 1823 August Schumann named Börnichen in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:

"[...], belongs to the one located near the south, ancient script. Rittergut Börnichen, now the Major v. Schoenberg. […] There is a small hereditary court here in Niederdorfe ; also 16 farms (mostly quite well built, and provided with a mediocre field, also considerable meadow wax), an inn at the lower end of the village, […], 2 mills, and another inn at the upper end; [...]. The residents mostly do factory work for Oederan, wherever they are parish. In the middle of the village lies a stately pond of medium size. [...] The local school teacher is allowed to hold the afternoon prayer hour on Sundays and holidays because of the distance from the church. For 7 poor local children, according to an old foundation, the Börnichen manor pays the annual school fees. "

A file, dated 1714, testifies that the subjects of Schönerstadt were not allowed to keep sheep, because the Trift was theirs. Duck breeding was also forbidden because of the damage the rulers feared in the fishing waters. In addition to the mills, there were a few craft businesses in the village at that time. Some of the local men worked in the coal mine of Flöha around 1840, where they reached daily on the "Bergmannssteig".
