The Scharrena Stuttgart ( spelling SCHARRena Stuttgart ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Stuttgart district of Bad Cannstatt . The hall is located in the Neckarpark event area and is attached to the Mercedes-Benz Arena . Their capacity is 2,251 spectators. Since April 2011 the hall has been the home ground of the women's volleyball Bundesliga team Allianz MTV Stuttgart . The Bundesliga handball team TVB 1898 Stuttgart has played its home games in the Scharrena since the 2012/13 season .

history

The conversion of the Mercedes-Benz Arena into a pure football stadium resulted in large open spaces in the two curves (Untertürkheim curve in the southeast and Cannstatter curve in the northwest). It was decided to build a sports hall in the Untertürkheim curve as a subsequent use. As of summer 2009, the existing Untertürkheim curve was demolished and then replaced by a back-gate stand. In the summer of 2010, the external work on the new grandstand was completed. The interior work followed.

On March 31, 2011 it was announced that the Stuttgart energy provider Friedrich Scharr KG would acquire the name rights to the hall by 2021 for a total of 812,500 euros. In addition, the company can extend the name sponsorship for a further five years for an annual sum of 100,000 euros.

The hall was opened on April 5, 2011. The total construction costs for the hall amounted to 15.3 million euros.

construction

The Scharrena is located behind the spectator stands at the Untertürkheim corner of the Mercedes-Benz Arena

The Scharrena is part of the Untertürkheimer curve belonging to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. When dealing with the Untertürkheim curve, a window into the Scharrena is possible. There is an open terrace on the roof of the arena, which is part of the business area of the Untertürkheimer curve, the so-called Soccer Lounge .

The hospitality area of the Untertürkheimer curve can also be used from the Scharrena.

Use / clubs

According to the city of Stuttgart, the Scharrena closes a previously existing gap in multi-purpose halls between school sports halls with up to 700 seats and the two large halls Porsche-Arena (6000-7500 seats) and Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle (8500-15,500 seats).

The home games of the 1. Volleyball Bundesliga women team from Allianz MTV Stuttgart take place there and the Stuttgart Valley Rollergirlz play their home competitions in the arena. The first division handball team TVB 1898 Stuttgart has also been playing there since the 2012/2013 season , with larger derbies taking place in the neighboring Porsche Arena .

The SCHARRena is increasingly becoming a hot spot for various events:

  • German indoor fistball championships on March 10th and 11th, 2012 (hosted by TV Stammheim)
  • General Assembly 2018 of VfB Stuttgart 1893 eV
  • German Indoor Hockey Championships Final-Four 2018
