Schiltern is a place and a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Langenlois in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria .
The Rotten Kronsegg and Neumühle, as well as the scattered settlements Krückl, Reisert and Neuwald belong to the market Schiltern as the central place.
geography
The place belongs to the small region Kamptal Süd and lies between Langenlois and Gföhl . The altitude in the town center is 380 meters. The area of the cadastral community covers 14.67 km². The population is 642 (as of 2020).
history
A circular moat system prospected in Schiltern in 2016 shows permanent settlement in the Neolithic Age , numerous older finds point to storage sites in the Palaeolithic . As early as 1920, the prehistorian Anton Hrodegh identified a Bronze Age settlement at the Burgstall near Kronsegg. The place was first mentioned in 1034 in the Middle Ages. Until the 19th century there were numerous changes in the landlords of the now Brandenburg feudal lords of Kronsegg and Schiltern. With the commissioning of the Kamptalbahn , Schiltern temporarily developed into a little summer retreat . The previously independent market town with the districts of Schiltern and Kronsegg was incorporated into the town of Langenlois on January 1, 1972 .

- Local mountain Zorimauer : Refuge castle with moat from the 13th century, located next to the parish church.
- Kronsegg castle ruins : Fortress in the Kronsegg district from the 13th century, defensive until the 18th century.
- Schiltern Castle : From the end of the 16th century the manor was expanded into a stately castle. After several barons and counts owners, the municipality of Langenlois acquired the castle in 1928, but passed it on to the Institute of the English Misses as early as 1930 . Since 1987 it has been the headquarters of PSZ Schiltern GmbH.
- Catholic parish church Schiltern St. Pankratius.
