La Chatonnière Castle

Garden of elegance
South of the castle, in the middle of green areas, in the shade of tall linden trees and conically cut yew trees, lies the garden of elegance. It is framed by sculptures and surrounded by vases, small bushes and viewpoints. Its ice mounds, labyrinths and flower beds change with the seasons: tulips in April, lilies in May, dahlias in summer, cyclamen in autumn.
Garden of intelligence
Surrounded by pergolas, which are entwined with roses , the garden of intelligence is reminiscent of luminous arabesques . Four blue-red, square beds are framed by pergolas and walls full of roses and clematis .
Romantic garden
The Romantic Garden is modeled on the dream of Polyphilus . It consists of a ring of thirty circular green spaces, and climbing roses supported by wickerwork form iridescent arches. In the middle there is a labyrinth as we know it from ancient Viking traditions .
Garden of Science
The garden consists of squares that form a checkerboard pattern. As a planting, lawn and medicinal herbs alternate. A sea of wildflowers billows over six hectares in the garden of exuberance.
Garden of silence
The Garden of Silence is at the heart of the property. An old fountain, a dovecote, lawns surrounded by cypress trees and vases as decoration give the garden both grace and austerity.
Garden of the Senses
To the west, at the foot of the medieval towers, around a water basin, is the boxwood-framed garden, which all five senses can enjoy. One hundred and fifty different perennials bloom in different colors. Birds chirp and cicadas chirp. You can feel the velvet petals between your fingers and smell the aromatic scent of the medicinal herbs.
