Swiss children's and youth book award
The Swiss Children's and Young People's Book Prize is a literary prize founded in 1942 and awarded annually by the Swiss Institute for Children's and Young People's Media (SIKJM) from 2020 onwards. The prize money is 20,000 francs, of which 10,000 francs goes to the winner and 2,500 francs each to the other authors or illustrators on the shortlist.
The award is given to an "aesthetically outstanding, content-wise innovative single work" by people with Swiss citizenship or place of residence in Switzerland.
From 2001 to 2002 the prize was not awarded, but a new concept was developed. Since 2003, the prize has been renamed the “Swiss Children's and Youth Media Prize”, alternating with the Pestalozzi Prize . Up to 2009, two winners were chosen in two categories. As of 2011, the jury will nominate six titles for the shortlist, one of which will be awarded. Until 2017, the prize was awarded every two years under the name of the Swiss Children's and Youth Media Prize with prize money of CHF 10,000.
Since 2020, the prize has been awarded annually under the name of the Swiss Children's and Youth Book Prize by the Swiss Institute for Children's and Youth Media, the Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association and the Solothurn Literature Days; the endowment in 2020 amounts to CHF 10,000 for the winner.
