Scott Charles Bigelow (born September 1, 1961 in Asbury Park , New Jersey , † January 19, 2007 in Hudson , Florida ) was an American wrestler , better known as Bam Bam Bigelow . Bigelow was considered one of the most agile "great" wrestlers in history. The tattoo that adorned his head was striking . He had this stung at the age of 16. His nickname was derived from the character "Bamm-Bamm Rubble" ("Bamm-Bamm Rubble") from the English edition of the Flintstones series .

Career

Beginning

Bigelow had tried his hand at wrestling with some success as a teenager in high school. He later worked as a bodyguard for Bruce Springsteen , as a bouncer and as a bounty hunter. After he trained as a wrestler at Larry Sharpe's Monster Factory , he made his debut in Memphis, Tennessee as an evil Russian named Crusher Yurkov , a gimmick that Fritz von Erich had come up with. His WCCW promotion and New Japan Pro Wrestling were Bigelow's next career steps.

World Wrestling Federation

In 1987 the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment ) became aware of Bigelow. Here he was allowed to compete in the Survivor Series in Hulk Hogan's team and eliminate two wrestlers in a 3-1 deficit situation before he had to bow to André the Giant . During 1988 Bigelow lost his job due to knee problems and went back to New Japan Pro Wrestling , where he formed a successful tag team with Big Van Vader . On October 26, 1992 he returned to the WWF. Now he was feuding with Tatanka and Doink the Clown . He later played part of the "Million Dollar Corporation" around Ted DiBiase . In 1995 he was allowed to play the main fight in the biggest wrestling show of the year, Wrestlemania , against American football player Lawrence Taylor . In the following period, however, he returned to the midcard . After backstage problems, he left the WWF at the end of 1995.

Extreme Championship Wrestling

1996 Bigelow had a short trip to shootfighting, where he was defeated by Kimo Leopoldo. Otherwise he appeared in smaller doctorates and won a. a. the Northeast Heavyweight Championship of the NWA and the 6-Men Title Japanese Wrestling Association R . In the meantime, he also had two appearances at Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he faced Terry Gordy and Mick Foley . Between spring 1997 and November 1998 he finally worked full time for the ECW. Here he formed a team called Triple Threat with his friends Chris Candido and Shane Douglas and was allowed to deliver legendary matches with Taz . In the ECW Bigelow was allowed to win a World Championship Title for the first time.

World Championship Wrestling

In 1998 Bigelow signed a well-paid contract with Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and was immediately put into a feud with the then figurehead Bill Goldberg , which he quickly lost. He later helped establish the Hardcore Division of WCW by feuding with other former ECW legends such as Raven and Hardcore Hak (who competed in ECW as Sandman ). During the spring of 1999 he was allowed to win the WCW World Tag Team Title alongside Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon . In the summer of 2000, Bigelow hit the headlines when he rescued two children from a burning house and was badly burned. When WCW was taken over by WWF, Bigelow decided to sit down and take a break from his contract, which ran directly through Time Warner .

Retirement and death

After the end of WCW, Bigelow opened a restaurant called Bam Bam Bigelow's Deli in Salem Township in Wayne County , Pennsylvania , which soon went bankrupt. In terms of sport, he had to cut back on various injuries. In the last years of his life Bigelow got into serious financial difficulties.

In the early morning of January 19, 2007, Bigelow was found dead in his apartment. An overdose of cocaine and benzodiazepines was diagnosed as the cause . In addition to his partner April Madison, he left three children, Shane Bigelow (* 1988), Scott Colton Bigelow (* 1995) and Ricci Bigelow (* 1998), who live with his ex-wife in New Jersey.
