The Scylla AG is a Swiss shipping company based in Baar . The ships are used in the time charter by various tour operators ( Phoenix , 1AVista, Tauck Tours and others). Scylla provides the nautical and service staff. It is (as of May 2020) owned by 31 cabin passenger ships (also known as river cruise ships for tourists).
Company history
Scylla AG was founded on September 3, 1973 as a family company under the name Scylla Tours AG. In autumn 2010 the name was changed to Scylla AG. In October 1973 the first ship, the Scylla , was converted from a tug to a passenger ship. She started as a river cruise ship in Central Europe in March 1974 . In March 1978 the second ship, the Calypso , was added. As of May 2020, the shipping company had 31 river cruise ships, most of which sail under the Swiss flag.

The dimensions of the ships are adapted to the respective conditions on the waterways such as low bridge clearance heights and lock dimensions . Due to the shallow draft of the ships, rivers with low water levels can also be navigated.

Incidents
On December 26, 2017, the Swiss Crystal collided with a bridge pillar of the A 42 near Duisburg. 25 people were injured, the majority of them slightly.
At around 2 a.m. on September 19, 2019, the Swiss Crown rammed the railway bridge in Konz on the Moselle above Trier . The roof of the wheelhouse was torn down.
On December 19, 2019, the MS Thurgau Prestige collided head- on with a tanker on the Rhine near Speyer . Around 20 people were injured.
