Sebastian Egenhofer

Sebastian Egenhofer (* 1968 in Stuttgart ) is a German art historian and professor at the University of Vienna.

Life

Sebastian Egenhofer studied painting between 1988 and 1989 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and between 1989 and 1995 art history , philosophy and modern German-language literature at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . Egenhofer then did his doctorate in art history at the University of Basel , where he worked as a research assistant between 2005 and 2007 and as Laurenz Professor for contemporary art until 2011. From 2012 to 2013 Egenhofer taught at the University of Vienna . From 2013 to 2016 he held the professorship for modern and contemporary art at the University of Zurich . Since 2016 he has been teaching as professor for contemporary art history at the University of Vienna.

His main research interests lie in the areas of abstraction of classical modernism, the history of landscape painting and the concept of nature, modern image systems, the history of institution-critical art since Marcel Duchamp and the determination of the relationship between art and philosophy.
