Hellmut Lorenz

Hellmut Lorenz (born June 11, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian .

Hellmut Lorenz studied art history, German and archeology at the University of Vienna from 1960 to 1972 . After a doctorate to Dr. phil. with Professors Renate Wagner-Rieger and Otto Pächt (1972) and habilitation (1983), he was visiting professor at the University of Salzburg in 1984 . In 1985 he followed a call to the Free University of Berlin , where he became professor of art history. Since 1997 he has been full professor of art history at the University of Vienna. In December 2012 he received the Wilhelm Hartel Prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
