Serra da Estrela ( Portuguese : Mountains of the Star ) is a statistical sub-region of Portugal . It is part of the Centro Região and Guarda District . The region borders Dão-Lafões in the north, Beira Interior Norte in the east, Cova da Beira in the south and Pinhal Interior Norte in the west .

• Area: 872 km²
• Population (2001): 49,896.

The sub-region is divided into three circles:

• Fornos de Algodres
• Gouveia
• Seia
