The Shenzhen Football Club , known in German-speaking countries as FC Shenzhen , is a football club from Shenzhen in China . The club plays in the second highest division in the country, the China League One . The club plays its home games at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center Stadium . The association has been owned by Swan Shenzhen Venture Capital Co., Ltd. since October 2015 . from Hong Kong .

Club history

The club was founded in 1994 as Shenzhen Football Club. Started in the third division , the club marched through to the first division within two years. The jump directly into the first division was probably too big, because the club was relegated as eleventh in the table. Since being promoted a year later, the club has played in the top division. The greatest national success of the club results from the years 2002 and 2004, when they became Chinese champions. Internationally, the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League could be reached in 2005 . There, Shenzhen was eliminated by Al-Ahli from Saudi Arabia . Since winning the championship in 2004, the club has been playing against relegation every season. The worst placement results from the 2011 season, which ended 16th and was therefore relegated. Since then, the club has played in China League One . In 2018 they were promoted back to the top division in the country, from which they were relegated in 2019 as the penultimate.
