Shiho Akita ( Japanese 秋田 史 帆 , Akita Shiho ; born January 18, 1990 in Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese tennis player .

Career

Akita started playing tennis at the age of seven, her preferred surface is the hard court. So far she has won six singles and two doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit . She achieved her best placement in the individual world rankings in April 2011 with place 255.

Akita played her first professional tournament in July 2006 at the $ 25,000 tournament in Nagoya , where the then 16-year-old immediately advanced to the round of 16 and lost to Chuang Chia-jung with 2: 6 and 3: 6. In June 2008, she was at a $ 10,000 hard court tournament in Tokyo for the first time in a final, in which she was defeated by Kimiko Date-Krumm 3-6 and 2-6. A month later, both players faced each other again in the four-part finals of the $ 25,000 tournament in Obihiro ; Again, Date-Krumm clearly prevailed 6: 3 and 6: 0. In May 2010 she reached the semi-finals at the $ 50,000 tournament in Fukuoka , where she was defeated by Austrian Nikola Hofmanova 5-7 and 3-6 . In August of the same year she was only defeated in the final of the $ 25,000 tournament in Tsukuba with 4: 6 and 1: 6 to the Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn . Akita achieved her greatest success to date in November 2015 when she reached the quarter-finals of the Ando Securities Open Tokyo . There she had to give up against her compatriot Nao Hibino in the third set at 6: 1, 3: 6 and 0: 2 due to injury. In doubles, she even reached the semi-finals at the same tournament with her partner Akari Inoue , which she lost to Eri Hozumi and Kurumi Nara with 2: 6 and 6: 7 2 .

On the WTA Tour , Akita competed in qualifying for the KDB Korea Open 2012 . She won her first round match against Katalin Marosi 6: 4 and 6: 3, before losing to Gréta Arn with 0: 6 and 3: 6. In qualifying for the PTT Pattaya Open 2012 , she lost in round one against Sacha Jones 6: 1, 1: 6 and 4: 6. In doubles in the same tournament she reached the quarterfinals with her partner Nicole Rottmann , in which they were defeated by Eleni Daniilidou and Tamarine Tanasugarn 2: 6 and 0: 6.
