Simmershausen is a district of the municipality of Fuldatal in the northern Hessian district of Kassel . The Simmershäusner are also called snow geese.

Geographical location

Simmershausen is a few kilometers north of Kassel on the Fulda , west of the Fulda loop, which includes the Gut Kragenhof headland . The Espe stream (called "Haufe" in Simmershausen) flows through the village and flows into the Fulda a few meters below . The Wahnhausen barrage west of Wahnhausen damms the Fulda here into a long lake. The village is on a slope west of the river. The closest neighboring towns in the municipality are Rothwesten , further north, Wahnhausen, located on the Fulda barrage, and Ihringshausen , located south between Kassel and Simmershausen .

history

Simmershausen was first mentioned in a document in 1074 as Simareshusun and Simaressun in the property registers of Hasungen Monastery . In 1308 Ludolph I. Groppe von Gudenberg gave the church patronage of Simmershausen when one of his daughters was admitted to the Ahnaberg monastery . In 1397 Burkhardt von Schöneberg sold the village to the Landgraviate of Hesse .

A little west of Simmershausen was the small town of Barghausen , which fell desolate in the 14th century and whose inhabitants probably moved to Simmershausen.

In 1999 the chronicle about Simmershausen was published to mark the 925th anniversary and has since been expanded to include a supplementary volume.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Fuldatal was created on January 1, 1970 through the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent municipalities Ihringshausen, Simmershausen, Wahnhausen, Knickhagen and Wilhelmshausen. As a result, Simmershausen became part of the large community of Fuldatal. Ihringshausen became the seat of administration.
