As long as there are pretty girls is a German music film by Arthur Maria Rabenalt from 1955. Grethe Weiser , Georg Thomalla and Alice and Ellen Kessler play the leading roles, while Rudolf Vogel , Irene Mann , Bob Cunningham and Oskar Sima play the leading roles .

Ernst, his wife Alice, their twin sister Ellen, her husband Bob and the young women's sister Monika arrive at Munich Airport . You drive to Mother Erna Lerch's and when you enter the chic house you remember how everything was shortly after the end of the war in 1947:

After the bombing of Munich, the Lerch family moved from their destroyed apartment one floor down to the Müller-Wiesenthal family's apartment. They had made it possible for them to flee to the USA during the war at personal risk. Because Erna Lerch is of the opinion that the couple may not return at all and also cannot know which furnishings have survived the war, she is gradually moving a large part of the furniture for Essen. Father Lerch, who is a righteous railroad worker, finds his wife's behavior appalling because he wants to be honest and give the couple their property back when they return. He only organizes sleepers in his company by necessity, as a part of the staircase is stolen again and again in his house - he believes, because Mother Lerch regularly has the piece sawed for firewood.

The 25-year-old Monika, the 20-year-old twins Alice and Ellen, and the lodger and musician Ernst, who has long been in love with Alice, live in Lerch's household. In order to support the family, Mother Lerch is actively involved in the black market, as the American soldiers come and go with her and always leave usable goods behind. One day the young Bob appears at Erna Lerch's. He has been in Germany for a day and hands her a letter from the Müller-Wiesenthals who are friends of his parents. Erna Lerch is so desperate that she does not open the letter. Father Lerch dares and reads that the couple is doing well, that they don't want to return to Germany and that they are giving the Lerchs all their belongings that have remained in the apartment. They also want to send them care packages . Father Lerch wants to get back at his wife and claims that the Müller-Wiesenthals are planning a visit to Germany and also want to inspect their furniture. He secretly has the care packages sent to his office address and feasts with his colleagues. Only gradually does he play “Santa Claus” and put food into his family's coats.

Erna Lerch believes that the family will have to leave the Müller-Wiesenthal apartment in the long term. The children decide to provide for a living. With Ernst and the help of the GIs, they found a band with dancers and organize an evening of entertainment in Frau Otto's pub. It comes to a sudden end when a committed fire eater sets the facility on fire. Ernst saves Alice while Bob protects Ellen, but thinks he has Alice in front of him. After the fire, all guests are arrested. The Colonel is outraged and perplexed that half of the prisoners are American soldiers and seeks out Erna Lerch. He too quickly succumbed to its charm and organized a new appearance for the revue in Garmisch . The evening will be a great success. At the end of the day, the postman brings a new letter from the Müller-Wiesenthals, in which they confirm that they have given up their belongings and ask about the receipt of the care packages. Father Lerch meekly admits the vertigo. Shortly thereafter, Bob Ellen proposes marriage, which the family accepts, as Bob's father, like his father Lerch, works for the railroad - albeit as president.

As long as there are pretty girls is based on the play Okay Mama by Annemarie Artinger, who was also involved in the script. For the Kessler twins it was their first collaboration in a film. The film was shot in the Bavaria Film Studios , in the Carlton Atelier and on location in Munich. The costumes were created by Teddy Rossi-Turai , the film structures were made by Kurt Herlth and Robert Herlth .

The film premiered on July 8, 1955 at the Stachus-Filmpalast in Munich. In France it was published under the title Tant qu'il y aura des jolies filles on February 29, 1956 and in the USA in 1958 under the title Beautifil Girls . In Spain the film ran under the German original title and in the Netherlands under the title Zolang er Mooie Meisjes zijn .

Icestorm Entertainment GmbH released As long as there are pretty girls ... on April 14, 2017 on DVD.

criticism

The film service called Solang 'there are pretty girls there is a revue game in which "with little humor or even wit [...] black market, fraternization and other contemporary phenomena [are [] included in the miserable plot". "Fun memories of lousy times", on the other hand, summarized the film sheets .
