On the wooded Feldberg-Langhals-Pferdskopf-Scholle in the northwest, in the area between Riedelbach (south), Dombach (west) and Cratzenbach (northeast), on the side of the historic Rennstrasse , construction work began in February 2014 for the construction of 7  wind turbines (WEA ) of the type Nordex N117 / 2400 from the manufacturer Nordex SE , with a maximum height of 199 m. WEA 7 was built around 900 m southeast of the Eichelbacher Hof . Three more wind turbines (1–3) were built to the west in the immediate vicinity of the Daubhaus , which is located in a side valley of the Dombachtal . For the locations of these wind turbines, larger gray rock walls had to be removed on the Sommerberg . The initiator and builder of the wind farm was the Wiesbaden project developer ABO Wind AG. At the beginning of 2015, ABO Invest AG, also based in Wiesbaden, acquired 80 percent of the shares in the Weilrod wind farm.

As is usual with such wind energy projects in forest landscapes, larger forest areas were deforested for the 7 wind turbines with the use of wood harvesters and then cleared . Furthermore, the racing road and forest roads going off to the side were converted into construction roads for the transport of the building materials and plant components , and the underground cables to the individual wind turbines were laid alongside these roads .
