Sonja Kesselschläger (born January 20, 1978 in Finsterwalde ) is a former German heptathlete .

Life

Her greatest successes are sixth place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and eighth place at the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis.

Kesselschläger started her career in 1984 with ASC Grün-Weiß Finsterwalde. In 1993 she was appointed to the D / C squad 7 fight. In 1995 the athlete switched to SC Neubrandenburg . There she trained with national trainer Klaus Baarck , who was also the trainer of Anke Behmer . After being appointed to the B-squad in 1997, she was an A-squad athlete without interruption from 2002 to 2006. Due to an injury she could not qualify for the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 . In 2007, when she made her comeback, she immediately qualified for the World Championships in Osaka and in the following year also qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing . She narrowly missed the nomination for the World Championships in Berlin .

In addition to her sporting career, she was a sports soldier (senior petty officer ) in the sports promotion group of the Rostock Bundeswehr . At the same time she studied business administration at the FernUniversität in Hagen , where she graduated in 2008. Since April 1, 2010, she has been employed by the Neubrandenburg public utility company .
