Sosnowka ( Russian Сосно́вка ) is an urban-type settlement in Tambov Oblast in Russia with 9,189 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is a good 50 km as the crow flies north of the Tambov Oblast Administrative Center on the Chelnovaya , a left tributary of the Zna .

Sosnowka is the administrative center of the Rajons Sosnowski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Sosnowski possowet, which also includes the villages Alexandrovka (12 km north-northeast), Kosmatschowka (9 km north), Marinovka (10 km north-northwest) and Wirjatino (9 km southeast) include .

history

The place was founded in 1640 by resettlers from the area around Ryazan , Shazk and Skopin . By the 19th century it developed into a regionally important economic center, so that a railway line was introduced towards the end of the century .

On July 16, 1928, Sosnowka became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. Since November 30, 1966, the place has the status of an urban-type settlement.

The Chelnovaya railway station , named after the river, is located in Sosnovka , the end of an 84 km long branch line from Pervomaiski ( Bogoyawlensk station ) on the Moscow  - Ryazan - Voronezh line, opened in 1895 .

The regional road Tambov - Morschansk  - Shazk (formerly A143) , which follows the Zna, passes about 15 km to the east .
