The Spielberg is 642.4  m above sea level. NHN high, partly wooded mountain of the low mountain range Hahnenkamm , a mountain range of the Franconian Alb , in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The mountain is the third highest elevation in the district and is one of the highest elevations on the Hahnenkamm and the entire Franconian Alb.

The wooded Spielberg rises along the Albtrauf in the west of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district on the northwestern edge of the Hahnenkamm, north of Heidenheim , southwest of Sammenheim and southeast of Gnotzheim not far southeast of the town of the same name Spielberg with its castle . The mountain is located near the border between the communities of Dittenheim , Heidenheim and Gnotzheim. Several small tributaries of the Schlangenbach stream arise on the northern slopes . The district roads WUG 25 passes west of the mountain peak. Not far to the northwest rises the Hagbuck , to the southeast the Yellow Mountain . The mountain is situated in the Altmühltal nature park in a conservation area .

There is a trigonometric point at the top .

Natural allocation

The Spielberg heard in the physiographic feature unit group Franconian Jura (no. 08), in the main unit Southern Frankenalb (082) and in the subunit Altmühlalb (082.2) for the natural area of Hahnenkammalb (082.22), with the mountain in the Hahnenkamm Vorberg (110.21) the foreland of the southern Franconian Alb falls away.

Sedimentary rocks from the Lower and Middle Jurassic can be found on the slopes of the Spielberg . Upper Jurassic sponge limestone dominates the summit . There is a stone channel on the north flank .

The Spielberger Leiten natural forest reserve is located in the forest to the west of the Spielberg . The stone channel south of Buckmühle is a registered geotope .
