SpongeBob's Atlantic Adventure is the title of the 92nd episode of the American cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants . The series special was shot by Stephen Hillenburg in 2007 and first broadcast on US television on November 12, 2007. In Germany , the episode was first seen on September 7, 2008 on Nickelodeon .

SpongeBob and Patrick find part of a golden amulet in the jellyfish fields of Bikini Bottom . Squidward explains to them that this is the lost half of the Atlantis amulet . When Squidward joins the two halves of the amulet, a bus appears that can actually take you to Atlantis. In addition to SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Sandy also want to ride and discover that the bus can be moved with singing rather than petrol . Plankton is also sneaking on board the bus.
In Atlantis you will be greeted by Lord Your Royal Highness, the ruler of Atlantis, who guides the visitors through Atlantis. During this time Mr. Krabs tries to get hold of the ancient treasures, Sandy wants to research Atlantic technology and Squidward the art of the Atlanteans, Plankton is looking for weapons and Patrick bursts the royal soap bubble. The king calms him down by telling him that it is only an imitation and shows Patrick the real soap bubble. When he tries to take a picture, the real bubble actually bursts. Before the summoned royal bodyguard can destroy Patrick and the others, Plankton appears with a tank. The king is fascinated by the green guy and takes him as a substitute for the bladder. After that, visitors return to Bikini Bottom. How plankton returns is not explained.

SpongeBob's Atlantic Adventure is the first TV film in the hit television series. When it was first broadcast on November 12, 2007, it attracted around 8.8 million viewers in the USA . The film had the highest viewership in the history of the series. SpongeBob's Atlantic adventure has been released on DVD along with six (other) episodes . The publisher Paramount Home Entertainment describes SpongeBob's Atlantic adventure as a double episode. In the English original David Bowie speaks the voice of Lord Royal Highness (in English Lord Royal Highness ). Bowie wrote about this on his blog

SpongeBob's Atlantic Adventure is also the title of the only video game to date based on a single episode of the SpongeBob SquarePants series. The video game ( USK from 6) was produced by the manufacturers Blitz Games (for Wii , PlayStation 2 ) and Altron (for Nintendo DS , Game Boy Advance ).
criticism
Despite the high number of viewers, there was also criticism of the series special. The well-known American television critic Tom Shales described the many vocal performances in the film as "stunning" . He also said that the funniest thing about the film is the title, because despite the length there are no more amusing scenes.
