Spuk aus outside is the third GDR children's series from the "Spuk" series from 1987. It followed on from the great success of its predecessors, Spuk under the Ferris wheel and Spuk in the skyscraper .

action

In the small town of Bärenbach in the Ore Mountains, the Habermann family is on vacation for a few days and hopes to be able to relax from everyday life in the big city of Berlin . But the Habermanns soon felt at home in the picturesque town and accepted the mayor's offer to stay in Bärenbach or to move there. They find an old house where Grandpa Rodenwald already lives and set up their new apartment in it.

But soon they have to realize that the cosiness in the beautiful new home is over, because it is so haunted. Father Habermann, who normally as a scientist and doctor rejects all superstitions, has to recognize this quickly. The Habermanns' children, however, like the haunted and haunted stories around the house. You make friends with Grandpa Rodenwald and are quickly drawn into adventurous experiences.

Grandpa Rodenwald is actually the robot RO-101, who is supposed to guard the house on behalf of three aliens from the distant planet Obskura. With his third eye hidden in the back of his head, he also perceives events outside of his actual field of vision. The three Obscurans had built the house in the Middle Ages as a "holiday home", but illegally stole material from the planet Obskura for this building at the time, which now "oozes". In order to remedy this situation, the obscurans have been given the task of bringing the materials used - i.e. the house and the robot - back to their home planet.

From the story of the obscurans in the Middle Ages, which at that time had already surrounded many ghosts, a legend from the Ore Mountains developed parallel to this, which television wants to film under the title “Hell Journey”. For this purpose, a rotating staff has come from Berlin, who appears at the same time as the Obskurans in the Ore Mountains. Since the Obscurans appear on earth as they did in the Middle Ages, there are a lot of amusing mix-ups with the film people. Since the children are the only ones who slowly recognize the true relationships, they don't give up so easily and come up with a whole lot of ideas to protect their beloved grandpa and of course the house.

Locations

The series was filmed in different locations. The interior photos were taken in the DEFA studios in Potsdam-Babelsberg . The haunted house itself was built as a backdrop in the Bornim district of Potsdam for cost reasons . All the recordings that play in front of the house and in which the house can be seen were shot here. In some of the shots in front of the house, a castle can be seen in the background. This is Rochsburg Castle near Lunzenau , about 25 kilometers north of Chemnitz . Accordingly, there is no take in the series in which “castle” and haunted house can be seen. This is concealed from the viewer by the stone bear, which was used as decoration at both locations, the skillful camera work and skillful editing.

Most of the outdoor shots in the series were filmed in and around Thum , Günter Meyer's hometown , in the Ore Mountains. Many of Bärenbach's buildings, such as the town hall or Ms. Riedel's general store, are actually in Thum. Scenes that take place in the mountains around Bärenbach were filmed in the Greifenstein . Rochsburg Castle once again served as the backdrop for the shooting at the castle shown in the film. The house in which Ms. Riedel's general store was located is in Thum at Greifensteinstrasse 12.

Trivia

The actor Stefan Lisewski was the only main actor who had a role in all three GDR spooky series: After the main role in Spuk unterm Riesenrad as a giant and the larger supporting role in Spuk im Hochhaus as caretaker Kegel here in a smaller role as Count Bärenfels . Also Katja Paryla (the witch haunting under the Ferris wheel and Jette Deibelschmidt in ghost in the tower ) can be seen in all three series - in spook from outside but only in a section of haunting in the skyscraper , which runs on an observation screen because one of the three Obscuraner set the wrong channel. In addition, Willi Schrade, Willi Neuenhahn and Arnim Mühlstädt had supporting roles in all three spooky series.

Director Günter Meyer also has a cameo in Spuk aus outside - as in the previous haunted series : In the third part he sits as a guest in the “Stülpnerklause” and ironically remarks to cameraman Peter Süring , who also has a cameo here that he will “really relax” on vacation and work for 14 days in the film. Also CU Wiesner occurs in the series. He plays the narrator.

Some minor film mistakes have crept into the series. In one scene of the 3rd episode, the assistant director calls the director played by Dieter Wien “Dieter”, but the clapperboard , which is shown legibly several times in the same episode, says: “Director: EO Meylahn”.

For a scene in the 6th episode in which the obscurans pierce the table with their swords in order to stab the narrator hiding underneath, only to find that he has disappeared, a cut was originally planned. Wiesner spontaneously made a different decision during the shoot and played a role, so that the scene remained uncut. However, Wiesner injured his shoulder.

Successor works

With the third part, the "Spuk" series was initially ended. It was only ten years later that attempts were made to build on the previous successes. Günter Meyer shot three more "Spuk" series, each with four episodes: Spuk aus der Gruft (1997/1998), Spuk im Reich der Schatten (1999/2000) and Spuk am Tor der Zeit (2001/02).

DVD

In April 2010 the series was released on DVD by Icestorm Distribution GmbH .
