St. Konrad von Parzham Church

The St. Konrad von Parzham Church , built from 1938 to 1940, is a Catholic branch church and was designed by Josef Bachem in the style of homeland security architecture with southern German elements . It is located at Ahrensfelder Chaussee 79-81 in the Berlin district of Falkenberg in the Lichtenberg district and, together with the nurses' home built by Paul Sommerfeldt in 1946, is a listed building .

history

On July 25, 1937, Konrad Graf von Preysing celebrated his 25th anniversary as a priest . As a gift from the diocese for the anniversary, a church was to be built in Falkenberg. The builder was the parish councilor of St. Josef in the Weißensee district . On December 8, 1938, the groundbreaking ceremony for the church was carried out. The foundation stone was laid on April 30, 1939. On April 21, 1940, the feast of St. Konrad von Parzham , the church was consecrated . Sankt Konrad has been a branch church of the Heilig Kreuz parish church in Alt-Hohenschönhausen since July 2004 , after the two neighboring communities merged.

Building description

The Z-shaped, plastered masonry structure is a building complex consisting of a hall church on a rectangular floor plan and the rectory . Instead of a bell tower the turned to the road will facade above the gable with a roof turret on the deep-drawn saddle roof crowned, which over an open bell chair with a hood in the form of a Bavarian onion is covered. There are two narrow arched windows in the gable . Below is the red bordered portal with two doors, the canopy of which is supported by the arms of a stone cross .

The interior has a through pointed arch binder divided barrel vault and is decorated in a late expressionist. The stained glass windows with symbols of the apostles come from Egbert Lammers . The altar painting was done by Ruth Schaumann . The baptismal font of Edwin Scharff of diabase , the baptism of Jesus neoclassical represents.

In 1985 the chancel was redesigned. The new altar was adapted to the side altars. In the altar there are relics of St. Therese von Lisieux and Elisabeth of the Trinity . In 1986 the church was repainted and the gallery on which the organ by Johannes Klais Orgelbau stands was given a new parapet in the Gothic style.
