The Church of St. Maria Magdalena is a Roman Catholic parish church in Hüttigweiler , a district of the Saarland community of Illingen , district of Neunkirchen . The patroness of the church is St. Mary Magdalene . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

In 1897 a church building association was founded in Hüttigweiler . From 1910 to 1911 the church was built according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Hector ( Saarbrücken-St. Johann ) in the neo-Romanesque style . The contractor Ambré ( Waldrach ) was responsible for carrying out the construction work . In 1961/62 the interior of the church was restored and painted in this context. From 1977 to 1978, under the direction of the architect Ludwig Dörrenbächer ( Wemmetsweiler ), another restoration was carried out, concerning the roof, the windows and the painting, as well as a renovation in which warm air heating was installed and the forecourt was designed.

Furnishing

In the choir there is an altar retable in neo-Romanesque style with a representation of the Holy Family , which was taken from the diocese magazine in 1978 as an addition to the high altar . With this addition, the previous modern bronze tabernacle no longer matched the style of the retable and was replaced by a new tabernacle, also in 1978. The wall of the choir is filled with a fresco depicting the wonderful multiplication of bread. Above it are several windows, of which the central window shows the symbols of the Father and the Holy Spirit , the side window to the left of the central window Margareta Maria Alacoque and the side window to the right of the central window Maria Magdalena.

The two-part communion bench made of white sandstone in the choir was removed in 1977/78 in line with the post-conciliar understanding of liturgy . The original communion bench was an openwork work, decorated with relief images depicting Christ as judge and in the Eucharist, flanked by the inscriptions “Mors et Vita”. After the dismantling, the individual parts served the new, octagonal celebration altar and the two middle pieces formed the foot of the two ambon , which were placed on the two choir pillars. In the chancel there is also an altar cross with the body of Christ, which was redesigned in 1977/78.

The baptismal font of the church , like the former communion bench, is made of white sandstone and is located in the vestibule in the basement of the tower, which serves as a baptistery . The ceiling painting and frieze in the chapel depict the Holy Spirit and fish in the water.

The church painter Franz Nirspor ( Zell ) painted the church in 1961/62. The Way of the Cross from 1962, consisting of half-reliefs without a frame, is the work of an Oberammergau woodcarver , as is the figure of Saint Barbara , which was donated by a miner in 1984. Glass painter Ferdinand Selgrad ( Spiesen-Elversberg ) designed the windows that depict the seven sacraments . The altar of Mary in the left side choir, the confessionals with reliefs and the Pietà under the gallery were made by Johannes Mettler ( Morbach ) . In the right side choir there is a Sacred Heart altar, which also serves as a war memorial altar and shows the figurative representation of the encounter of the risen Christ with Mary Magdalene. There is a rose window in the west facade .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1924 by the Otto Kratochwil company ( Bonn ) and has 32 registers , divided into two manuals and pedal and almost 2000 pipes . The organ is one of the few historical German-Romantic instruments in the region that is still original and can be played. In 2008 the organ was overhauled and partly renewed by the organ builder Thomas Gaida ( Wemmetsweiler ).
