The church of St. Marien in the Stemweder village of Dielingen is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Dielingen, which includes Dielingen, the Stemweder localities of Drhne , Haldem and Arrenkamp as well as the Lower Saxony Stemshorn . The parish is cross-federal, but belongs to the Lübbecke parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

The church building dates back to the 13th century and was expanded and rebuilt several times in the following centuries.

history

It is possible that the first Minden Bishop Erkanbert founded a church in Dielingen as early as the beginning of the 9th century, as a result of Christianization by the Franks . During investigations in the period around 1900, indications of a previous building from the 9th century were discovered at the site of today's church. A church in Dielingen was not mentioned in a document until 1231.

Building history

Nothing is known about the history of the previous buildings. The current church was built in the middle of the 13th century in the late Romanesque style, initially as a two-bay hall church with a rectangular east choir . The tower in the west also dates from the Romanesque period.

Around 1450, the Gothic style choir was extended to the north and south like a transept , so that the floor plan of the church was in the form of a "T". During the Renaissance , a two-storey sacristy was added to the east , making the floor plan look like a cross today.

The windows from the Middle Ages are pointed arches , the original tracery on the east side was later removed. In 1902 more windows of various designs were installed. The round-arched, Romanesque main portal is located on the north side of the western yoke . The portals on the north side of the tower and on the north side of the choir extension, however, are pointed arches.

The spire was constructed after 1703. Between 1958 and 1963 the church was restored.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is predominantly Baroque from the 17th century, such as the organ (around 1650) and the pulpit (1680). The tabernacle and a five-seat carved choir stool date from the Gothic period .

organ

The builder of the historic organ of the Marienkirche is unknown, as is the exact year of construction. In the course of time, the instrument has been expanded and rebuilt several times. Johann Berenhard Klausing expanded the organ in 1738, further modifications were made in 1899 and 1904. In 1951, Paul Ott added the chest work and expanded the pedal work. The instrument has 20 registers on two manuals and pedal , of which ten old registers have been preserved. The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The prospect pipes , which are painted and decorated, are striking .
