Johann Berenhard Klausing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Berenhard Klausing (* before 1683 ; † 1762 ) was a German organ builder from Herford , who worked in northwest Germany in the first half of the 18th century.

Life

Little is known about Johann Berenhard Klausing's biography. He was born as the son of Hinrich Klausing (* 1642/43 in Rheda ; † 1720 in Herford), in whose company he is recorded in 1693. From 1711 Johann Berenhard appeared as the representative and successor of his father. His brother Christian Klausing (1687–1764) was also an organ builder. Both sons continued their father's business together. Johann Berenhard was structuarius and organist at Herford Cathedral from 1724 to 1761 . He died between October 13, 1761 and August 24, 1762.

The Klausing family from Herford worked in the 17th and 18th centuries between Hanover and Westphalia and from the North Sea to the Sauerland, with a focus on Bielefeld and Osnabrück . The well-known organ building family built around 50 new organs between 1677 and 1755, which can be safely attributed. Due to the collaboration in the family business, the works of the three organ builders in the family cannot always be clearly distinguished. As a rule, small single-manual organs with attached pedals were built, which had about six to a maximum of twelve stops in a uniform disposition . Only four of them have an independent pedal that was set up behind the main plant. In 1715 the family's only positive return was created by Johann Berenhard. Characteristic for the works of the Klausing family is the richly decorated prospectus design with towers and many pipe fields that rise gradually towards the inside. In addition, the family took up the Westphalian type with the characteristic two-storey pointed towers between three round towers. Works by Johann Berenhard Klausing are attested for the period between 1711 and 1738. Up to around 1720, handcrafted spring shops were used.

In the fifth column of the table, the Roman number indicates the number of manuals , a capital "P" indicates an independent pedal , a lower-case "p" indicates an attached pedal and the Arabic number in the sixth column indicates the number of sounding registers .
