St. Michael is a listed Catholic parish church in Krugzell , a district of Altusried in the Oberallgäu district ( Bavaria ).

history

In place of a previous building, St. Michael was rebuilt in 1500 under Abbot Johann von Riedheim of the Princely Monastery of Kempten . Only the church tower built in 1446 was used from the previous building . In 1720 the saddle roof of the church tower was renewed. After the church was partially demolished, a new construction or expansion took place between 1839 and 1844 under master bricklayer Andreas Häfele. This church building was inaugurated in 1847. The church was renovated between 1898 and 1900 and between 1948 and 1951.

Building description

The nave of the east-facing church consists of four window axes formed by pointed arched windows. The flat ceiling in the nave is modern. On the west side there is a two-story gallery from the 19th century, the organ is located in the middle of the upper gallery . Also to the west is the church tower from 1446, made of rolling stone masonry. The church tower, which is covered with a gable roof, has sound openings on three sides. The tracery windows from the 19th century are at the level of the bells. In the basement there is an arched passage from the nave through which the first gallery can be reached by stairs. On the southern outer nave wall, the double coat of arms of Johann von Riedheim is embedded above a sundial . The retracted choir connects through the choir arch with a five-eighth end . The sacristy is located north of the choir, which is presumably late Gothic in the wall core . The net vault in the choir dates from 1948/1951. The eastern one of the five pointed arched windows in the choir is walled up.

Furnishing

The altars and the pulpit from 1899/1900 are neo-Gothic . The central altarpiece of the winged altar shows the feast of Pentecost . In the right wing is the scene of Jesus appearing to St. Mary Magdalene . On the left of the wing you can see the scene of Jesus appearing to St. Margaret Maria Alacoque . The paintings were created by Leonhard Thoma in 1899 . The left side altar contains a figure of Jesus, in the excerpt above is the figure of St. Michael from the end of the 17th century. A figure of the Mother of God with baby Jesus is in the right side altar, above in the excerpt the baroque figure of Saint Catherine of Siena from around 1700.

The crucifixion group on the south wall of the nave with Mary and John dates from the 17th century. The wooden Pietà dates from around 1510. The figure of St. Sebastian around 1500. The lecture cross in the choir comes from the third quarter of the 17th century.
