description

In 1048 the parish church of Richeza was founded. It was first mentioned in a document in 1074 as the mother church under the church patronage of the Benedictine Abbey of Saalfeld . From her a large parish was once looked after, which was only dissolved in 1533. The parishes were divided into surrounding parishes . The originally very richly furnished previous church burned down in 1794 as a result of a lightning strike and was rebuilt in 1796. The old church tower in the west from the 14th century, which still has the Gothic pointed-arched windows, has been preserved. The church tower was hit by US artillery in April 1945 and partially destroyed. In 1980 the demolition of the leaning tower was considered. He was then relieved by removing the bells. These were hung on a steel frame in the parish garden. In 1995 the tower had to be closed due to the risk of collapse. The ceiling beams of the nave were infested with sponge. In 1996 the restoration of the church took place with the strong commitment of the population.

The nave of the hall church is covered with a half-hip roof. The stump of a slate-covered pyramid roof sits on the tower , on top of which stands an eight-sided attachment that supports a tent roof . He was relieved by the removal of the three cast steel bells . They are now hanging at ground level in a belfry in the parish garden. They date from the time after the Second World War . Inside the tower there are two storeys with cross vaults , so the building was a fortified church . The interior of the nave is a large rectangular hall, by a continuous ceiling is spanned whose circumferential haunch of strips with stucco exist. Below it, two-story galleries move around the room, but leave the pulpit altar free in the east. It is crowned by a sun rising from clouds and has reliefs as ornaments . The balustrades of the galleries show ornamental stencil painting . To the right of the staircase to the pulpit is the old parsonage . On the gallery in the area of the former patron s lodge there are still two ovens, one of which is made of iron and shows the date 1730, the other made of ceramic is undated. The organ is on the lower gallery in the west . It is one of the oldest Crapp organs in Thuringia. Its ten registers are distributed over a manual and a pedal and were built by Johannes Christoph Crapp in 1634, modified by Caspar Schippel in 1801 and restored by Hoffmann and Schindler in 1999 . The prospectus , designed in the West Thuringian-Hessian style, shows a Zimbelstern and two trumpet angels.
