St. Peter and Jakobus maior (Nendingen)
The church St. Petrus und Jakobus maior is the catholic parish church of Nendingen in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .
history
The current church was built in 1754/1755, with the lower part of the tower of the previous church being preserved. The church patrons St. Petrus and Jakobus maior were first mentioned in a document in 1736 and were taken over from the previous church. Renovations to the interior and exterior of the church building took place in 1881, 1902/1903 when the Danube was laid, 1933/1934, 1972–1975, 1994/1995 and 2001.
style
The handsome church with the slim tower that characterizes the townscape (raised to a height of 42.5 meters in 1863) shows a baroque style with echoes of the Rococo . The bell house and the tower are Gothic and Romanesque .
inner space
Inside there is a wide range of furnishings in different styles. The most recent pieces of equipment are the celebration altar with ambo, created by Wendelin Matt ( Trossingen ) in 1994 . The painter Joseph Ignaz Schilling (1702–1773), probably from Villingen , painted the leaves of the side altars as early as 1751. The sculptures were made by the Baroque sculptor Franz Korb from Mühlheim. Particularly noteworthy are the ensemble of the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan , the lecture cross and the resurrection Christ that can be seen during Easter . The two baroque figures of Maria and Joseph on the side altars are of simple beauty . The ceiling painting "The introduction of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Altar Sacrament by the Bishop of Constance " was painted by August Braun from Wangen im Allgäu in 1933/1934 . The ceiling painting in the choir "Homage to the Catholic Youth Before Christ" was made by his nephew at the same time.
The high altar, redesigned around 1880 (the original picture “ Last Supper of Jesus ” by Ignaz Schilling hangs in the community hall) shows a crucifixion group and above it the picture “The Sacrifice of Melchizedech ” with the offering of bread and wine. The two figures in the choir, St. Verena and St. Margaretha , are to be assigned to the late Gothic. The theme of the altarpiece of the Marian altar is the Assumption of Mary , above it Joseph with the lily . As with the depiction of the crowned Mary with the child, these are works from the Baroque period. On the right side altar is the martyrdom of St. Agatha is shown, also from the Baroque era.
The Pietà in the front left wall niche of the church is the work of the sculptor Berchtold from Nendingen and was created at the end of the 19th century. The two figures on the ship wall, another St. Verena and Anna selbdritt are baroque, as is the imposing crucifixion group on the opposite nave wall. Presumably these figures come from the abandoned pilgrimage church Maria Hilf on the Welschenberg near Mühlheim. The plaster reliefs of the twelve apostles on the walls show good folk art (1756). The medallions on the choir arch, St. Elisabeth and St. Performing Konrad , the sculptor Alfred Tönnes from Sigmaringen made it in the 1930s .
organ
The organ from 1952 comes from the Späth organ building workshop in Ennetach , but was dismantled in 2009. In July 2011 a new organ from the Jäger & Brommer company from Waldkirch was inaugurated. The money for the new organ was also raised by the Orgelbauverein Nendingen e. V. collected, among other things through organ sponsorships. For the celebrations, a cardinal celebrated Walter Kasper in Nendingen for the first time in the thousand-year history .

Peal
Four bells hang in the tower. The deepest is the Christ bell (c '1945 kg), the second the weather bell (e' 1000 kg), the third the Mary bell (g '689 kg), the fourth the Peter and James bell (a' 463 kg). The most valuable of the four bells is the weather bell from 1712. It has withstood all the storms of time and was cast at the Rosenlaecher bell foundry in Constance . The remaining three bells were cast by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling in Heidelberg in 1955 .
