The Mitte district is the innermost district of the independent city of Hof (Saale) .

Location and history

The district is located in the center of the city. It is bounded to the east and north by the Saale , and to the east and south-east by a railway line.

The city ​​center consists of the old town and the new town . Westend is to the west and the station district to the south.

The old town was built around 1180, the new town in 1230. The new town was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1823 and then rebuilt in a classical style. The old town was rebuilt in the 19th century with urban, metropolitan development.

The Westend and the Bahnhofsviertel were built as the city grew during industrialization . Large Wilhelminian style districts emerged .

The main train station is in the south of the district . All rail connections to and from Hof ​​pass through the main station.

Central Station

In the future, regional trains will also stop at the new Hof-Mitte station under the Jahnbrücke. Trains from five lines are supposed to stop there.

The provisional bus station is located in the district on Sonnenplatz. The new bus station is to be built at the new Hof-Galerie shopping center.

Regional buses currently stop in Bergstrasse in the Bahnhofsviertel. In the future, the regional bus stop will also be at the new bus station. There is also the stop at the main train station and larger stops in the city area.

Flixbus offers trips to Berlin , Zurich and Passau at the long-distance bus station in front of the main train station .
