The Stammberg is 559.5  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Franconian Alb near Peulendorf in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg , Bavaria ( Germany ).

The Stammberg rises in the north-west of the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park on the north-western edge of Franconian Switzerland  - in the urban area of Scheßlitz in the north and in the municipal areas of Litzendorf in the south and Memmelsdorf in the west. Its summit is in the Scheßlitz area 2 km south-south-east of Peulendorf , 1.7 km south-south-west of Pünzendorf , 2.4 km west-south-west of Neudorf , which all belong to Scheßlitz, 2.5 km north-west of Tiefenellern , 1.9 km north of Lohndorf and 3 km east-northeast of Schammelsdorf , which belong to Litzendorf, and 2.5 km east-southeast of Kremmeldorf , a district of Memmelsdorf.

The landscape of the Stammberg falls to the north into the valley of the Leitenbach tributary Pünzenbach (Deisertbach) with the villages of Pünzendorf and Peulendorf; Beyond that, the Schloßberg ( 530.4  m ) rises , on which the ruins of the Giechburg stand. To the east it leads to the Hummelberg ( 552.9  m ). To the south, the landscape falls into the Ellertal with the villages of Tiefenellern and Lohndorf, which is traversed by the Gründleinsbach -Quellbach Ellernbach, which rises southeast of Tiefenellern , and drains to the west to the Main ; The historic “Rote Tür” water pipeline, which supplied Seehof Castle near Memmelsdorf, begins on the southern slope of the mountain near Lohndorf . Beyond the Ellertal, the landscape climbs past the Stockenberg ( 562.7  m ) to the Geisberg (approx.  585  m ), the highest mountain in the Bamberg district. To the west, the landscape falls into the valley of the Leitenbach tributary Leithenbach with the village of Kremmeldorf.

Mountain height and spurs

Four spurs are grouped around the summit ( 559.5  m ) of the Stammberg: Buchleite ( 553.3  m ) in the northeast, Gänsberg ( 557.3  m ) in the southeast, Schammelsberg ( 526.6  m ) in the southwest and Latzebühl ( 537, 3  m ) in the northwest. The Sporn Brandinger Knock ( 426.2  m ) lies 2.2 km west-southwest of the summit .

Protected areas

On the southern flank of the Stammberg lies the nature reserve Naturwaldreservat LOHNAL ( CDDA no. 164760; designated 1987; 51.36  hectares in size). On the mountain are part of the protected landscape Franconian Switzerland Veldenstein Forest in the district of Upper Franconia (CDDA No. 396107;. 2001; 1004.2418  square kilometers ) and the Fauna Flora Habitat type region Albtrauf of Dörnwasserlos to Zeegendorf . (FFH No. 6032 371; 30.6317 km²).
