Stanislaw Nagy
Stanisław Kazimierz Nagy SCJ (born September 30, 1921 in Alt Berun , † June 5, 2013 in Krakow ) was a Polish theologian and cardinal .
Life
Stanisław Nagy, son of a Hungarian father and a Polish mother, joined the congregation of the Sacred Heart Priests in 1937 and studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Cracow and Lublin . He received on 8 July 1945, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1947 to 1950 he was rector of the boys' seminary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Priests in Cracow-Plaszów and from 1952 to 1958 he was rector of the seminary of his order in Tarnów . After further studies he received his doctorate in moral theology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1952 ; in addition, he specialized in questions of ecumenical theology and taught in Lublin from 1958. From 1957 to 1962 he was responsible for the theological studies of the Sacred Heart Priests.
In 1968 he was appointed professor of moral theology at the Catholic University of Lublin . In 1970 he also became director of the newly established department for comparative religious studies and ecumenical theology. From 1973 he also held a teaching position at the University of Wroclaw . In addition, he belonged to various commissions and synods on questions of ecumenism . From 1973 to 1974 he represented the Vatican in the mixed Catholic-Lutheran commission convened by the Secretariat for Christian Unity of the Holy See and the Lutheran World Federation . In 1986 Pope John Paul II appointed him to the International Theological Commission . He was the director of the Ecumenical Theology department of the Catholic encyclopedia of the Lublin University.
In honor of his theological life's work, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular Archbishop of Hólar on October 7, 2003, shortly after Nagy had reached the age of 82, and took him on October 21, 2003 as a cardinal deacon with the titular diaconia Santa Maria della Scala into the College of Cardinals . Previously, the Archbishop of Cracow , Cardinal Franciszek Macharski , had donated him episcopal ordination on October 13 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Lemberg , Marian Jaworski , and the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk .
When Conclave 2005 and the papal conclave, 2013 , he was not eligible to vote because he was old over 80 years.
Stanisław Nagy appeared as an author of non-fiction books and co-author of a Catholic encyclopedia . He also made a name for himself as the author of several biographies about Pope John Paul II . He had a friendship with Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II, for years as a priest.
